Mozilla shut Pocket down on 8 July 2025. The announcement is in Mozilla’s own post, and mozilla.com/pocket now says the service has shut down. If your Pocket queue was mostly essays and newsletters, you want another reading app. If a lot of what you saved was a post, a reel, or a thread, a read-later clone will feel the same gap Pocket had: it was built for articles.
What Pocket was good at
Pocket took a URL, stripped the article, and held it in a quiet queue. Tags, highlights, and text-to-speech were the mature version of “I will read this later”. The save action lived in the browser and in share sheets. You did not have to invent a system.
It was a poor home for a TikTok, a carousel, or a thread whose point was post twelve. Those saves became a title and a link, which is how they got lost.
Two replacements, not one
Stay in a reading queue if you still save articles to read in full. Matter and Readwise Reader are the closest shape: a list, a reader, highlights. Reader’s published price, after a 30-day trial, is $9.99 a month billed annually or $12.99 billed monthly, and it includes Readwise. Matter’s current price is not quoted here, because the company’s public pages do not state one consistent figure. Comparisons: Yuri vs Matter, Yuri vs Readwise Reader.
Leave the queue if you save social posts for the idea, not for a 20-minute reading session. Yuri takes the link from Telegram or from the Chrome extension and, on Basic and Pro, writes an explanation, tags, and the main points so you can search them. You are not maintaining a reading streak. You are keeping a private library. Starter is free for 25 links a month and stores the link without that writing. Basic is €4,99 a month or €49,99 a year (up to 400 links). Pro is €12,99 a month or €129,99 a year (up to 1,200) and adds Ask Yuri. See pricing.
Keep a classic bookmark manager if you want collections of every URL, including ones you will never ask an AI about. Raindrop.io still does that, with unlimited bookmarks on the free plan. See Yuri vs Raindrop.
A practical split
Use a reader for pieces you will actually read. Use Yuri for the post you would have forwarded to yourself. Mixing both is reasonable. Forcing a reel into an article queue is how the queue dies again.
More of the social side: save Instagram posts, save TikToks, save X threads.
